Daikin WHT – Weekly Chiller Maintenance Procedure

Use this checklist to carry out weekly maintenance of Daikin WHT vapor absorption chillers, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.

General System Inspection

  • Perform detailed visual inspection of chiller and surrounding areas for leaks, wear, or corrosion
  • Verify weekly operating hours and compare with typical operation patterns
  • Test all system alarms including pressure, temperature, and flow alarms
  • Check for unusual odors indicating solution degradation or overheating
  • Inspect insulation for damage or moisture infiltration

Solution System Check

  • Check absorber solution levels and record any changes from previous week
  • Verify solution pump operation - listen for cavitation or unusual noise
  • Check solution sight glasses for clarity and proper flow patterns
  • Monitor solution temperatures at key points in the cycle
  • Inspect for crystallization indicators around valves and piping
  • Verify proper solution mixing and consistency

Water System Maintenance

  • Clean chilled water strainers and document debris accumulation
  • Clean cooling water strainers and check for biological growth
  • Verify water flow rates and pressure drops across heat exchangers
  • Check water treatment chemical levels and adjust dosing if needed
  • Inspect pump seals for leaks or excessive wear
  • Verify proper venting of water systems

Vacuum System Review

  • Record vacuum readings and compare with previous weeks
  • Document purge unit runtime for the week
  • Check purge pump oil level and condition
  • Listen for air infiltration sounds during operation
  • Verify vacuum gauge readings are stable and accurate

Heat Source Verification

  • Verify steam/hot water supply pressure and temperature stability
  • Check steam trap operation and condensate return (if applicable)
  • Monitor generator temperature profile during operation
  • Test heat input control valve modulation
  • Verify combustion efficiency (direct-fired units)

Electrical System Check

  • Inspect electrical connections for signs of overheating or corrosion
  • Check motor amperage against nameplate ratings
  • Verify proper operation of motor overload protection
  • Test control panel displays and operator interface
  • Check for proper grounding and electrical safety
  • Verify motor condition and listen for bearing noise

Control System Verification

  • Review control panel for active alarms or warnings
  • Verify setpoints haven't been inadvertently changed
  • Test control response to simulated load changes
  • Check trending data for unusual patterns
  • Verify remote monitoring connectivity (if applicable)
  • Test manual override functions

Performance Monitoring

  • Record key performance indicators including COP and capacity
  • Compare weekly energy consumption with baseline
  • Monitor approach temperatures for fouling indicators
  • Review performance trends to identify developing issues
  • Document any capacity shortfalls or efficiency losses
  • Track cycle times and operating patterns

Safety Systems Test

  • Test high/low pressure and temperature safety alarms
  • Verify emergency shutdown system functionality
  • Check crystallization prevention system readiness
  • Test safety interlocks and protective devices
  • Verify proper equipment room ventilation
  • Check emergency equipment accessibility
