Generator Fuel Level – Inspection Procedure
Ensure reliable generator backup by performing fuel level checks, gauge calibration, and fuel quality inspection.
Manual Fuel Level Verification
- Ensure generator is turned off and cool
- Use calibrated dipstick or measuring tape to check fuel level
- Compare reading to gauge and record both values
- Inspect cap, fitting, and tank seal during access
Fuel Quality Sampling
- Use clear container or approved sampler to collect sample
- Check appearance: fuel should be bright and clear
- Use paste or sensor to check for water contamination
- Inspect for microbial growth or sediment
Leak Detection Procedure
- Inspect all visible lines and fittings for leaks
- Check around tank base and containment area
- Ensure leak sensors or alarms are functional
- Report any discoloration, wet patches, or smell of fuel
Gauge Testing Protocol
- Confirm gauge responds accurately to level changes
- Check readability and backlight if present
- Verify match with manual dipstick readings
- Recalibrate gauge if deviation exceeds 5%
