Pressure Vacuum Breaker (PVB) Testing
- Close downstream shutoff valve and then the upstream
- Connect properly calibrated test kit to test cocks
- Bleed air from hoses to avoid inaccurate readings
- Check differential pressure across check valve
- Simulate vacuum to ensure air inlet opens correctly
- Compare test values to manufacturer standards
Atmospheric Vacuum Breaker (AVB) Inspection
- Ensure no downstream valves are present
- Relieve pressure and observe float movement
- Confirm float seals vent under flow, opens after
- Inspect for signs of debris or vent clogging
- Verify 6” height above flood level rim
- Check for leakage or dripping from vent port
Winterization Process
- Turn off water supply to vacuum breaker
- Open test cocks to drain residual water
- Remove and store breaker in a heated area if portable
- Insulate remaining piping and body if fixed installation
- Tag valve with winterized date and responsible person
- Update service log with winterization procedure
Annual Service by Certified Technician
