The One Difference That Defines This Comparison

Most CMMS comparisons argue about features, screens, and per-seat pricing. This one is different — because the gap between OxMaint and MaintainX is not at the feature layer. It is at the infrastructure layer. OxMaint is the only company that ships an AI-native, NVIDIA GPU-powered platform that runs on-prem, inside your plant environment, on hardware we deploy at your site. MaintainX runs entirely on a shared multi-tenant cloud built on traditional CPU architecture. They do not maintain an on-prem product, because their architecture was never designed for one.

That single difference cascades into every dimension that matters for a serious industrial buyer: data sovereignty, inference latency, air-gap compliance, real-time PLC/SCADA integration, offline resilience, predictive maintenance accuracy, and total cost of ownership at scale. This page walks through six core comparison dimensions where the architectural choice changes the outcome — and shows why for any real manufacturing, power, mining, pharma, or utility operation, OxMaint is in a different product category.

Four Capabilities Only OxMaint Delivers

On-Prem AI Server Deployment

We ship a pre-configured NVIDIA AI server, racked and validated, and deploy it inside your customer environment — including the AI compute layer. MaintainX has no on-prem option at any tier.

GPU-Accelerated AI Native Stack

NVIDIA Tensor Core GPUs run deep-learning vision, vibration, and acoustic models locally at millisecond latency. MaintainX runs on traditional CPU-based cloud infrastructure — no GPU layer.

Data Sovereignty & Air-Gap Ready

Sensor data, PLC tags, inspection photos, and operational records stay inside your perimeter. We support fully air-gapped deployments. MaintainX requires all data to travel to vendor cloud.

Turnkey 6–12 Week Deployment

Hardware, software, cabling, network integration, PLC/SCADA taps, model training, operator training, and 24×7 remote monitoring — all included in one turnkey delivery.

Six Dimensions Where the Architecture Decides the Outcome

OxMaint is the only CMMS company that deploys an AI-native technology platform on-prem — including the AI servers. We ship a pre-configured NVIDIA-certified GPU server (L40S, A100, or Jetson Orin class depending on workload), racked and validated at our factory. We then deploy it inside your customer environment: your VLAN, your firewall, your physical rack. The AI compute, the application server, the database, and the model runtime all sit on hardware you can see and touch.

MaintainX cannot do this. Their architecture is cloud-only — every work order, asset record, inspection photo, and sensor reading lives on the vendor's multi-tenant infrastructure. There is no on-prem appliance, no edge GPU, no customer-environment install path. They do not maintain it, because their architecture was never built for it.

OxMaint's AI stack runs on NVIDIA Tensor Core GPUs with CUDA acceleration. That means deep-learning vision models, vibration anomaly detection, acoustic fault classification, and remaining useful life (RUL) prediction all run in parallel at millisecond latency — directly on the floor. Multi-modal models process video, thermal, vibration, and pressure streams simultaneously. The same hardware that powers data-centre AI clusters is sitting in your maintenance closet.

MaintainX runs on shared multi-tenant CPU cloud infrastructure. There is no GPU layer — and there is no path to add one without rebuilding the architecture. The product offers a "CoPilot" feature that assists with procedure text, but it is a text-only LLM assistant, not an AI maintenance engine. It cannot run vision models, cannot process sensor streams in real time, and cannot perform deep-learning predictive analytics.

Defense contractors, pharma plants under 21 CFR Part 11, power utilities under NERC CIP, and any operation that handles export-controlled or classified data cannot send operational records to a vendor's multi-tenant cloud. Regulators require the data to stay inside the perimeter. OxMaint is built for this — the on-prem deployment keeps every sensor reading, PLC tag, work order, and inspection photo on the customer's own infrastructure. We support fully air-gapped installations where the system never touches the public internet.

MaintainX is cloud-only. All operational data flows through the public internet to vendor servers in third-party data centres. There is no air-gap option, no customer-controlled key management at the infrastructure level, and no path to deploy inside a classified network.

Predictive alerts only help if they fire before the failure. High-fidelity vibration, acoustic, and thermal sensors generate gigabytes of data per second on a busy plant. With OxMaint, all of that traffic terminates on the on-prem GPU server — inference runs in 10–20 milliseconds, fast enough to drive real-time control decisions, abort a bad batch, or stop a press before tooling damage. The "data gravity" problem disappears because the data never has to leave the floor to be processed.

MaintainX has to ship every sensor reading to its cloud, run analysis on shared CPU infrastructure, and ship a response back. Real-world round-trips of 200–500 milliseconds are typical. For threshold alerting and work-order routing that latency is acceptable. For real-time predictive control on a production line, it is too slow to act on.

Mines, refineries, ports, offshore platforms, remote utility substations, and many manufacturing plants have intermittent internet. With OxMaint, the on-prem AI server is the system of record — the platform runs on local hardware whether the WAN link is up or down. Work orders continue, AI inference continues, PM schedules fire on time, and any cloud sync resumes automatically when connectivity returns.

MaintainX has a mobile offline cache so technicians can fill in a work order without signal, but the core CMMS is a cloud application. When the site loses connectivity, the central system goes dark — dashboards do not update, AI features stop, integrations break, and any team member on the web app sees a connection error.

OxMaint sells a turnkey AI rollout — not a SaaS subscription. The bundle includes the NVIDIA AI server, cabling, network integration, PLC/SCADA taps, model training on your data, operator and technician training, and 24×7 remote monitoring of the edge box by our SRE team. The site goes live in 6–12 weeks under a fixed scope: weeks 1–4 ship and network, weeks 5–8 train models and pilot, weeks 9–12 go-live and handover. At scale, the economics are CapEx + flat licence — predictable, not per-seat.

MaintainX is sold as a per-user-per-month subscription. The capabilities a serious plant needs — IoT/PLC connectivity, SAP integration, advanced analytics — sit in higher tiers or as paid add-ons. Hitting feature parity with what OxMaint includes out of the box pushes the real per-seat cost well above the listed sticker.

What "On-Prem AI" Actually Looks Like in a Shift

A real operator question, answered in seconds by an AI that has access to every PLC tag, vibration sensor and historical work order — none of which has left the plant.

Why a cloud-only CMMS cannot have this conversation

Real-time PLC visibility

OxMaint reads the amp draw and ISO 10816 vibration tags directly from the on-floor PLC, on-prem. Cloud SaaS cannot see them at this fidelity.

Deep-learning pattern match

The bearing-wear signature is matched against prior failures by a model running on the local GPU. CPU cloud cannot run this inference in real time.

Data never leaves the plant

Sensor stream, work-order draft, parts bin location — all stay inside the perimeter. No vendor cloud round-trip.

SAP MII, ME & PCo end-of-life: 31 December 2030

The Modern On-Prem Successor to SAP MII, ME & PCo

SAP has confirmed that mainstream support for SAP Manufacturing Integration & Intelligence (MII), Manufacturing Execution (ME), and Plant Connectivity (PCo) ends on 31 December 2030. The SAP-recommended successor is SAP Digital Manufacturing (DM) on Business Technology Platform — a fully cloud-native architecture where shop-floor data must flow out to BTP for processing. For plants that chose MII/ME/PCo precisely because it ran on-prem and integrated tightly with PLCs, that direction is a reversal. OxMaint is the on-prem, AI-native alternative that preserves what worked about the SAP stack — and modernises everything else.

Replaces SAP MII
Integration & Intelligence

MII connected ERP to the shop floor and surfaced KPIs. OxMaint does the same — bidirectional SAP S/4HANA integration across 5 modules with no middleware, plus AI-native KPI dashboards on a local GPU instead of a cloud BI tool.

Replaces SAP ME
Manufacturing Execution

ME tracked production orders, genealogy, and quality. OxMaint covers work-order execution, asset and lot traceability, inspection logs, and digital SOPs — running on the on-prem AI server so production never pauses if the cloud link drops.

Replaces SAP PCo
Plant Connectivity

PCo was the middleware to PLCs, OPC UA, MQTT, and historians. OxMaint includes native OPC UA, Modbus, MQTT, and OSIsoft PI connectors in the deployment — no separate license, no separate server, no separate consultant.

Sources: SAP roadmap announcements confirm MII / ME / PCo end-of-maintenance on 31 December 2030, with SAP DM on BTP positioned as the cloud successor. Many manufacturers are evaluating third-party alternatives because DM is cloud-only and requires shop-floor data to flow to BTP.

Where MaintainX lands by comparison

MaintainX is a competent mobile work-order app for retail-chain facilities and SMB digitization. The moment a buyer needs real PLC integration, predictive maintenance, data residency, or AI on the floor, the conversation moves to a different product category — and that category is OxMaint.

Why On-Prem AI Beats Cloud-Only at Industrial Scale

Organizations that move from a cloud-only CMMS to OxMaint's on-prem AI platform see measurable change inside the first quarter — because GPU-accelerated, plant-local inference unlocks decisions a cloud CPU SaaS cannot make.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions from plant managers, CIOs and reliability leads evaluating OxMaint against MaintainX and SAP DM.

No. MaintainX is architected as a cloud-only multi-tenant SaaS product. There is no on-prem appliance, no GPU edge node, and no published path to run it inside a customer environment. This is a structural property of how the product was built — not a pricing tier or a roadmap item.

No. The NVIDIA-certified AI server ships racked, cabled and pre-loaded with the OxMaint software stack — included in the turnkey deployment. Power, rack space and Ethernet are the only things your site provides.

OxMaint runs a fail-to-safe protocol — the system falls back to threshold-based alerts and our 24×7 SRE team is paged automatically. Spare hardware can be hot-swapped without losing data because the database replicates to a secondary node. The plant keeps operating with no AI service gap.

Yes. The hardware is pre-validated at our factory before it ships, so site setup is unbox, rack, network, configure. A typical greenfield site goes from purchase order to full production in 6–12 weeks — comparable to a cloud CMMS onboarding and often faster than an SAP DM consulting engagement.

Yes. Our migration team imports your assets, work-order history, PMs, checklists, parts inventory, vendor records and user accounts via API and CSV. Most migrations complete inside the first four weeks of the deployment window with zero downtime for the existing system during cut-over.

SAP DM is the SAP-recommended successor and runs on SAP Business Technology Platform — a cloud-native architecture. OxMaint preserves the on-prem characteristic of the original MII/ME/PCo stack, includes native PLC/SCADA connectivity that replaces PCo, runs AI on the local GPU instead of a cloud BI service, and integrates bidirectionally with S/4HANA across five modules. For plants that chose SAP originally because it ran on-prem, OxMaint is the more architecturally consistent migration target.

OxMaint sells a hardware CapEx plus a flat annual licence — predictable and capped regardless of headcount. MaintainX charges per user per month forever, with key industrial capabilities (IoT/PLC, SAP integration, advanced analytics) gated behind higher tiers or paid add-ons. For any plant with more than ~50 maintenance users, OxMaint is typically lower TCO at the three-year mark and substantially lower at five years — and you own the asset.
